Watching the world

autumn

watching the world
seeing, looking, admiring
people, people, everywhere
passing time, observing

I enjoy the hub
the atmosphere of the moment
sidewalks with people rushing
strolling, some pushing

my eyes snapping shots
like a camera lens shutting
my memory storing pictures
a scent will trigger these images

locking away each day
hundreds of slides of people
seen for a moment
to store pixels in cells

people laughing, happy
hands talking, animated
sitting or standing
rushing or walking

sidewalk cafes and stalls
restaurants and diners
shopping malls and complexes
filled with people.

an old man grinning,
one old man resting,
a little girl skipping,
another tired and crying,

Passing the time watching,
seeing short stories unravel,
At the bus-stop or taxi stand,
or sitting alone in a cafe.

a cup of coffee my companion
I sit alone, an oasis
surrounded by people
noisy, having their meal

the family eating and talking
teenagers queuing at the counter
others waiting for their orders
my eyes darting at any movement

such an epic tale unfolding,
this small corner of my world
an open book without chapters
some with endings, some without.

so, I keep watching, observing
the world in front of me
actors of everyday life
my eyes, the camera snaps the shots.

I'm a Eurasian of Portuguese, English, Scottish and Malay heritage. And my extended family are of Chinese and Indian heritage. In recent years, the younger generation have added on to include spouses from the Philippines, Nigeria and Russia. My world is made up of different colours like the rainbow. And like the rainbow I am unique. Reading is my form of relaxation, to escape from the drudgery of daily life and enter into a world of the imagination. It is the love of reading that has led me to try my hand in writing short stories and poems. I hope that in some way my stories and poems will take you for a little while away from the drudgery of the present into the pages of imagination. To new friends found, I bid you, Welcome. Sincerely, C.E. Pereira
