Flight MH17

You didn’t know what hit you
high in the skies you exploded
into thousands of pieces to fall down
a nightmare you cannot wake up from.

A war at the Russia-Ukraine border
the missile launched by a soldier
reached Flight MH17 taking 298 souls
so cruelly blown to pieces in the sky.

Too gruesome to describe or comprehend
this disaster where one cannot stomach
so horrific in daylight this tragedy
pieces of metal and flesh strewn for miles.

A mind-boggling coincidence,
two Boeing 777, two aviation disasters
Flight MH370 lost without a trace
Malaysia now mourns for Flight MH17.

Flowers and lighted candles, we pray
mourning those never to come home.
Time will fly, memories will fade,
not to you whose loved ones were lost.

They were persons full of life yesterday,
Now silenced forever with one blast.
will you be their voice?
To be heard, to demand for justice.

I'm a Eurasian of Portuguese, English, Scottish and Malay heritage. And my extended family are of Chinese and Indian heritage. In recent years, the younger generation have added on to include spouses from the Philippines, Nigeria and Russia. My world is made up of different colours like the rainbow. And like the rainbow I am unique. Reading is my form of relaxation, to escape from the drudgery of daily life and enter into a world of the imagination. It is the love of reading that has led me to try my hand in writing short stories and poems. I hope that in some way my stories and poems will take you for a little while away from the drudgery of the present into the pages of imagination. To new friends found, I bid you, Welcome. Sincerely, C.E. Pereira
