To lay down his life

A type of Balsam – Pix by Carol

“Greater love has no one than to lay down his life for his friends, says the Lord.”
(John 15: 13)

Amidst mass genocide.
A story from the Holocaust.
Of a man giving his life.
To save that of a stranger.

He took another’s place.
Knowing death awaited.
Greater love has no one,
Than to lay down his life.

His robes washed white.
In the army of saints he walks.
His name written in history.
He is St Maximilian Kolbe, a priest.

(14 August is the feast of St Maximilian Kolbe (1894 – 1941), Franciscan Priest and Martyr.)
