What is around the corner?

autumn

Stay on the sidewalk.
Stay where I can see you.
Don’t go round the corner.
What is around the corner?

Danger everwhere.
Unseen, yet very real.
I take a cautious step.
What is around the corner?

Here and now, this instant.
My feet are glued.
I feel the fear.
What is around the corner?

Keep me safe.
For I know not what comes.
I will not be afraid.
What is around the corner?

Fear pops up now and again.
A voice awakens the fear.
Stay where I can see you.
What is around the corner?

I freeze when I hear that voice.
Filled with panic; jittery.
It can still bring on fear.
Fear of what’s around the corner.
