Rallies, protest, demos, etc…

autumn

My heart is troubled by rallies.
A protest march can become ugly.
So far, blood has not spilled.
Neither has a riot happened.

The path is precarious.
Like walking on eggshells.
A fragile path, all on edge.
A slight spark, tempers can flare.

This is the fifth time known.
This rally Bersih will partake.
Yellow the colour its members wear.
As they march for the five demands.

For clean elections; clean government.
To strengthen parliamentary democracy.
The right to dissent.
Empowering Sabah and Sarawak.

I know of another without fear.
They call themselves the Red Shirts.
In their rallies they show violence.
A tactic to scare the yellow group.

We are of one nation, one family.
Respect for each other we strive for.
We are as different as night and day.
A right to a peaceful rally we ask.

Who will protect this right for us?
To keep the Red Shirts in line.
To keep their anger away from Bersih.
Take note officers in blue; upkeep the law.

Kuala Lumpur will be painted vibrant.
Dominated by the colour yellow and red.
A nation praying for a peaceful rally.
As its people wear yellow and red.

I'm a Eurasian of Portuguese, English, Scottish and Malay heritage. And my extended family are of Chinese and Indian heritage. My world is made up of different colours like the rainbow. And like the rainbow I am unique. Reading is my form of relaxation, to escape from the drudgery of daily life and enter into a world of the imagination. It is the love of reading that has led me to try my hand in writing short stories and poems. I hope that in some way my stories and poems will take you for a little while away from the drudgery of the present into the pages of imagination. To new friends found, I bid you, Welcome. Sincerely, C.E. Pereira
