He hasn’t given up on me

I am average and ordinary
Quite good but not brilliant
I have to work twice as hard
Perseverance is my friend

Does my work deserve its due?
I question myself time and again
My self-esteem is shaken
Yet I won’t settle for less

Work and chores eat into time
Time with family and friends I need
Making time to write never enough
Is tiredness affecting my writing?

This struggle I face each day
Of the well almost empty
Is there only echoes bouncing?
While talent is only fleeting

My insecurities rearing its head
I take a step back, uncertain
This seems trivial to voice out
Yet I will hurt if I stop

The starting point is easy
Can I continue until the finish line?
God is the one I turn to
He hasn’t given up on me, how can I.

I'm a Eurasian of Portuguese, English, Scottish and Malay heritage. And my extended family are of Chinese and Indian heritage. My world is made up of different colours like the rainbow. And like the rainbow I am unique. Reading is my form of relaxation, to escape from the drudgery of daily life and enter into a world of the imagination. It is the love of reading that has led me to try my hand in writing short stories and poems. I hope that in some way my stories and poems will take you for a little while away from the drudgery of the present into the pages of imagination. To new friends found, I bid you, Welcome. Sincerely, C.E. Pereira
