Isolation

A room full of people.
Yet standing alone.
Wanting to be gone.
Anywhere, but here.

Persons can be cruel.
Their snub a direct hit.
With head held high, a quiver,
trying not to fall apart.

Jaws locked tightly.
To keep from reacting.
If one were to bite,
one’s tongue will bleed.

The group banter in fun.
Sly jabs they shoot.
Eyes that catch their guilt.
Twisted smiles on their faces.

Is one paranoid?
The mind is not mushy.
Is one imagining this?
No, for fear is felt.

Can it get any worse?
Yes it can, it will.
The pack looks to its leader.
Awaiting its command.

A whisper given.
It spreads like the wind.
How can one stop disaster,
when all control is lost.

The instinct for survival.
To flee as fast.
Push down this panic.
Don’t show fear, don’t flee.

To think differently.
To stand outside the circle.
The group thinks collectively.
The odd one in cold storage.

A cry of one is lost.
The group controls the town.
A country, then the world.
The minority wings are clipped.

To be shunned, isolated.
The dislike for integrity.
This stand against corruption.
Alone, yet not fleeing.

I'm a Eurasian of Portuguese, English, Scottish and Malay heritage. And my extended family are of Chinese and Indian heritage. My world is made up of different colours like the rainbow. And like the rainbow I am unique. Reading is my form of relaxation, to escape from the drudgery of daily life and enter into a world of the imagination. It is the love of reading that has led me to try my hand in writing short stories and poems. I hope that in some way my stories and poems will take you for a little while away from the drudgery of the present into the pages of imagination. To new friends found, I bid you, Welcome. Sincerely, C.E. Pereira
