Charlie Brown and Lucy.

Sketch done in the 1980’s by C.E. Pereira

Charlie Brown first appeared in the comic strip Peanuts on October 2, 1950.  The lovable loser in the zig-zag t-shirt—the kid who never gives up (even though he almost never wins) is the creation of Charles Schulz.

“Charlie Brown must be the one who suffers, because he’s a caricature of the average person. Most of us are much more acquainted with losing than winning. Winning is great, but it isn’t funny.” – Charles Schulz
