The decisions we make today

autumn

“God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.”

History is knowledge of the past,
to keep save the present we live in.
History cannot be changed, it can be repeated.
Wars won or lost are lessons in History.

History books shows timeline of wars.
Battles fought throughout the ages.
Julius Caesar, Alexander The Great, Napoleon Bonaparte,
Leaders who led their armies into battle.

Colours defined friend or foe.
Like the Red coats and Blue coats.
A soldier stands proud in the colour he fights for.
He has no choice but to obey orders.

Today, the battle continues globally.
Each country has its own type of war.
Be it ethnic cleansing; to protest marches.
Not only soldiers but civilians do battle.

The Yellows marched peacefully.
A clean government, a stop to the corrupted.
The Reds will march against the Yellows.
What are the Reds protesting?

Is Yellow good and Red bad or vice versa?
Yellow is good; for Red’s agenda is dark.
A darkness that destroys unity and trust.
Who marches against wanting good? Evil.

Once again like the Red coats and Blue coats,
Sides will be chosen, Yellow or Red.
Freedom threatened; unity divided.
Will race, culture and religion stand the test?

Generations into the future will read about us.
The decisions we make today will affect our tomorrows.
The legacy we leave our children is so fragile.
For the line between peace and unrest can easily be compromised.

I'm a Eurasian of Portuguese, English, Scottish and Malay heritage. And my extended family are of Chinese and Indian heritage. My world is made up of different colours like the rainbow. And like the rainbow I am unique. Reading is my form of relaxation, to escape from the drudgery of daily life and enter into a world of the imagination. It is the love of reading that has led me to try my hand in writing short stories and poems. I hope that in some way my stories and poems will take you for a little while away from the drudgery of the present into the pages of imagination. To new friends found, I bid you, Welcome. Sincerely, C.E. Pereira
