The Haze

This was taken at 4.30 pm today 14 Sept 2015 on the outskirts of the suburbs of Kuala Lumpur. Look at what the Haze is doing to the Sun.

Except for the pungent burnt ash smell,
The misty look was as deceiving as can be.
The scene outside my home was shrouded in mystery.
The makings of a horror movie titled ‘The Haze’.

Year after year we are enveloped in The Haze.
Each year it gets worse, but it continues.
Why do the ones in authority keep apologising.
But not preventing the “burning” that creates The Haze.

Our air is being polluted by fumes from vehicles.
Then there is pollution from industrial sites.
Smoke emitting from funnels and chimneys.
Add clearing forest for farming, the burning of trees.

Across the Straits from my homeland,
another land carrying out this ‘burning’.
The ashes blown across the ocean of water,
reaching these shores and being label ‘The Haze’.

I'm a Eurasian of Portuguese, English, Scottish and Malay heritage. And my extended family are of Chinese and Indian heritage. My world is made up of different colours like the rainbow. And like the rainbow I am unique. Reading is my form of relaxation, to escape from the drudgery of daily life and enter into a world of the imagination. It is the love of reading that has led me to try my hand in writing short stories and poems. I hope that in some way my stories and poems will take you for a little while away from the drudgery of the present into the pages of imagination. To new friends found, I bid you, Welcome. Sincerely, C.E. Pereira
