The Iron Horse

autumn

They once were the Titans
Chugging along on iron tracks
Into the pages of History
that chronicles the steam engines.

The Wabash Cannonball
a classic train song
An ode to railroads
A tribute that spans the globe.

The era of the Iron Horse
Steam puffing, whistle blowing
From the Rocket the first in line
Steam locomotives ruled the tracks

The Flying Scotsman, the most famous
Reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour
Without stopping or refueling
The longest run for steam trains

The fastest of all, The Mallard
It thundered and hurtled down the line
It’s heyday of full steam ahead
Now, shunted into history forever.

That golden age of steam locomotives
Nostalgia for that train whistle
Of puffing steam and rumble of tracks
That era when legends were born.

I'm a Eurasian of Portuguese, English, Scottish and Malay heritage. And my extended family are of Chinese and Indian heritage. My world is made up of different colours like the rainbow. And like the rainbow I am unique. Reading is my form of relaxation, to escape from the drudgery of daily life and enter into a world of the imagination. It is the love of reading that has led me to try my hand in writing short stories and poems. I hope that in some way my stories and poems will take you for a little while away from the drudgery of the present into the pages of imagination. To new friends found, I bid you, Welcome. Sincerely, C.E. Pereira
